Grand Island Rotary to Participate in World’s Largest Polio Walk on World Polio Day

Grand Island, NE – 10/14/2026 — On October 24, World Polio Day, the Rotary Club of Grand Island will join thousands of Rotary members across Region 36 – Zones 25 & 29 in the World’s Largest Polio Walk, a coordinated effort to raise awareness and support the global fight to end polio.

As part of this initiative, 36,620 Rotarians across 11 states and 2 countries are expected to participate by organizing and joining walks in their local communities. Walker information will be collected and submitted to Guinness in hopes of achieving the World’s Largest Polio Walk.

The Rotary Club of Grand Island will host its local walk at Eagle Scout Lake between 10-11am, inviting community members, families, and supporters to take part in this meaningful event. Participants are encouraged to share their experience on social media to help amplify the message.

“The final mile in any journey can be the hardest. As communities across the nation and the world unite for this walk, we can get one step closer to finally eradicating polio” said Tonja Brown, president of the local Rotary Club of Grand Island.

Rotary has been a leader in the fight to eradicate polio for more than 35 years through its End Polio Now campaign, helping reduce cases worldwide by over 99.9%. Events like the World’s Largest Polio Walk aim to raise awareness and ensure the momentum continues until polio is fully eradicated.
