Nebraska cornerback Andrew Marshall was one of five defenders added to the Chuck Bednarik Award watch list on Wednesday. The Chuck Bednarik Award is presented yearly to the outstanding defensive player in college football.

It continues a string of mid-season honors for Marshall, as he was named a first-team midseason All-American by both On3 and Sports Illustrated last week.

Marshall, a 6-foot, 195-pound senior from Eastvale, Calif., has anchored a Blackshirts defense which ranks in the top 20 nationally in total defense (ninth, 271.3 ypg), turnover margin (14th, +.86) and scoring defense (14th, 15.4 ppg) entering Saturday’s game with Washington.

On the season, Marshall has started all seven games for the Huskers and recorded 21 tackles, four pass breakups and an interception.  According to Pro Football Focus, he has allowed just eight catches on 27 total targets through the first seven contests. Despite seeing a limited amount of targets, he has four or more tackles three times this season, including each of the last two weeks.  He is ranked as the nation’s top cornerback in the Pro Football Network Impact Rankings.

Marshall has started all 20 games since arriving on campus before the 2025 season. He was an honorable-mention All-Big Ten pick as a junior totaling 45 tackles, including four tackles for loss, four pass breakups and an interception.

The Huskers return to action on Saturday when they host Washington. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. CT with coverage provided by BTN and the Huskers Radio Network.
