Northwest Softball Shuts Out Kearney Catholic
(Grand Island, NE) - Graclyn Simmons struck out 11 batters as the starter led the Northwest Vikings past the Kearney Catholic Stars 8-0 on Monday at Veterans Complex. Simmons surrendered one hit and zero runs over five innings while walking three.
Northwest scored six runs in the first inning on the way to victory. Abby Dinkelman singled, scoring one run, Simmons singled, scoring two runs, Karstyn Zuelow singled, scoring one run, Addie Burbach singled, scoring one run, and Haper Wissing drew a walk, scoring one run.
Perri Tidwell took the loss for Stars. The starting pitcher went four and one-third innings, surrendering eight runs on eight hits, striking out eight and walking six.
Simmons drove the middle of the lineup, leading Northwest with two runs batted in. The cleanup hitter went 1-for-3 on the day. Becca Dinkelman went 2-for-3 at the plate to lead the Vikings in hits. Naleah Baier paced with three walks. Overall, the team had patience at the plate, collecting six walks for the game. Dinkelman stole two bases. Northwest Varsity Vikings ran wild on the base paths, amassing seven stolen bases for the game.
Claire Damratowski went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Kearney Catholic Varsity Stars in hits.
